Steve Hutensky is a writer and editor who has worked on a variety of publications, including the “New York Times,” Huffington Post, “The Guardian”, and others. He’s also the author of dozens of books that have been translated into multiple languages around the world. And he’s been doing this for over three decades!
Hutensky took me on a tour of his personal life while chatting via Livestream chat earlier today in order to show what it takes to be passionate about your craft like he is. He shared his love for writing and his passion for books which inspired him to go beyond his profession as a writer, editor and publisher. Steve Hutensky also showed me what it takes to live out your dreams, inspiring me to do so as well.
Steve Hutensky Made Up Stories Himself. Shortly after graduating high school, Steve worked as a newspaper reporter in Detroit, Michigan. When asked who he talked to at the time, he answered “I talked to myself.” He continued to create his own stories and his writing took off shortly thereafter. After three years of publishing poems and short stories in various alternative magazines, Steve was offered a job as assistant editor of “The Phoenix” – an award-winning alternative weekly newspaper in Arizona.
When Hutensky was asked what the secret was to his success, he stated, “Don’t give up on your dreams.” He shared that he started writing when he was ten years old, but gave up after several rejections by publishing houses. But then he picked it up again when Steve Hutensky became really passionate about writing after college. He started submitting manuscripts again, but still received rejection letters until his first book got published in 1993.
When I asked what made him desire to be an author, he responded with, “For me it began as a passion for reading and a love of books. What I love about books is that they make you think. They don’t only teach you something in a linear fashion, they also show you how to think on your own. They give you perspective.”
He also said that as he got older, he started writing more intensely. Refer to this article for more information.
